Evan Berwick would become one of the youngest elected officials in the state.
Less than a year after he received his diploma from Seekonk High School, Evan Berwick may be looking to return to the school district as an elected leader. The 2012 Seekonk High alumnus recently pulled papers for a potential run in the April school committee election for two seats. If he were to win a seat, Berwick would become one of the youngest elected officials in Massachusetts and follow in the footsteps of School Committee Chair Mitch Vieira. He was first elected in 2009, a little less than two years after graduating from Seekonk High. Berwick attends the New England Institute of Technology in East Greenwich, R.I., according to his profile on Facebook. He did not respond to Seekonk Patch's email request for an interview. It could be…

For the second time in two weeks, a Seekonk School Committee member has resigned. Fran Creamer announced at the meeting Monday night that she would step down Dec. 21 because she and her husband are moving to Jacksonville, Fla. David Quinn submitted a resignation letter Nov. 20 stating he planned to leave Seekonk. Creamer has served on the committee since 2006. She also served from 1997 to 2000. The Board of Selectmen and school committee will vote on replacements for Creamer and Quinn Dec. 19. School committee Chair Mitch Vieira said a notice would be placed on the school district and town's websites Tuesday morning with information on how people can apply. The committee is one member short following last month's resignation of David Quinn.
The Seekonk School Committee will meet tonight for the first time since member David Quinn resigned because of plans to move out of the town. A discussion about the vacancy is included on the agenda. The decision of who will replace Quinn will be made by a joint vote of the Board of Selectmen and the school committee. Mitch Vieira, school committee chair, said at last week's selectmen meeting that the decision should be made Dec. 12 or 19. He said he planned to post a notice on the school district's website requesting applications. Quinn's replacement would finish his term, which ends in April. That seat and the one occupied by Fran Creamer are up for renewal in next spring's town election. Tonight's meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the …

David Quinn is leaving the town.
Seekonk School Committee member David Quinn resigned Tuesday afternoon. According to his resignation statement submitted to the Town Clerk's Office, he is leaving Seekonk. "The reason for my resignation is that I am relocating my residence out of the town of Seekonk," Quinn wrote. "I believe I no longer qualify to sit as a member of said school committee." A Seekonk native, Quinn earned a committee seat in an uncontested election in 2010. His replacement, who will serve the rest of Quinn's term through April, will be appointed by the school committee and board of selectmen. The April election will include a contest for Quinn's former seat and the one occupied by Fran Creamer. She has not announced whether she plans to run for a new term. …

The Attleboro School Committee also meets tonight.
The sudden departure of Seekonk school district Superintendent Madeline Meyer will be the focus of tonight's School Committee meeting. Meyer resigned Friday morning. No official reason has been given for Meyer's departure. Various sources familiar with the situation told Attleboro-Seekonk Patch that the Seekonk Educators Association, which had butted heads with Meyer, was prepared to take a no-confidence vote over allegations of plagiarism. School Committee member Brian Freitas told Patch on Friday, "The plan going forward will be discussed Monday." The meeting will take place at Seekonk High School at 7 p.m. The agenda is attached. It was drafted before Meyer's resignation, so that issue is not included in the document. The Attleboro …

To the editor: Seekonk owes its children the best education we can afford. In turn, Seekonk deserves to have its education resources managed as efficiently as possible. I have vested interest in Seekonk’s schools - being the proud father of a 6-year-old daughter and an infant son. It is for those reasons that I have decided to run for School Committee. All too often it is considered the responsibility of the School Committee to advocate for increased funding for education. I disagree. I believe the primary responsibility of the School Committee is to act as the Town’s diligent steward for those resources it can allocate to education. Inasmuch as our children deserve a high quality education, they also deserve to inherit a town whose …
