Study Shows Majority of Americans Now in Favor of Marijuana Legalization
Support for legalizing marijuana use rose 11 points in the last two years; and long-term attitudes among older generations has changed, the Pew Research Center finds.
A majority of Americans are supportive of legalizing marijuana, a new Pew Research Center poll revealed this week. The findings mark the first time in four decades of polling in which more Americans showed support for legalization than not, according to NPR. Support for legalization rose 11 points since 2010, the study revealed. What's more, the poll showed that a Gallup survey from 1969 found that a mere 12 percent favored legalizing marijuana, with 84 percent opposed. The Pew poll was conducted between March 13-17, during which time more than 1,500 adults were surveyed.
