Shop Locally in Attleboro and Seekonk on Small Business Saturday

Start your holiday shopping at locally owned stores during Small Business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday is today. It is a day for everyone to support the small businesses that are essential to the community. American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might otherwise be overlooked. With retailers buzzing around the holidays, it is important to support local small businesses that rely on their neighbors to continue prospering and building the local economies in Attleboro and Seekonk. "By purchasing goods and services from a local business, it helps put money right back into our local economy," said Jack Lank, president of the United Regional Chamber of Commerce, which represents businesses in Attleboro and Seekonk. Shop Local on Small Business Saturday

Just what is Small Business Saturday and why should you support it in Attleboro and Seekonk?

Big name national retailers take the spotlight on Black Friday as their deep price cuts pull in shoppers in droves. That's basically the question that was asked back in 2010 when the concept of Small Business Saturday was born. Small Business Saturday is "a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities," the U.S. Small Business Administration explains on its website. American Express gets the credit for founding the shopping holiday, which got its official start Nov. 27, 2010, according to the Small Business Saturday Facebook page. The event drew…

Chamber Encourages Support of Small Business Saturday

Business owners share what Small Business Saturday means to them.

Black Friday is over and now it's time for small businesses to shine with Small Business Saturday. "We appreciate the huge public relations push that American express has put on this Saturday as small business Saturday, they started this months ago picking a Saturday here or there but we have promoted small business Saturday, every Saturday since it began," said Jack Lank, president of the United Regional Chamber of Commerce, which supports businesses in 16 communities including Attleboro, Foxborough, Mansfield, Norton, Seekonk and Wrentham. "Why can’t every Saturday be where you choose a small business to buy your goods and/or services," Lank added. Sports Store Aims to GOBble Up its Competitiors for Holiday Season

Small Business Saturday eyed as boost to Attleboro GOB shop.

For anyone who’s played hockey, baseball, basketball, soccer or any sport the past three generations in the greater Attleboro area, it is a familar sight to see current and former athletes proudly wear sports jacket with an 'A' embroidered on them. Most likely they have a Ryan and Son's Gob Shop purchase label attached to them, too. As a city landmark the past 62 years, this sports retail store in the heart of downtown Attleboro somehow is carrying on its tradition of serving the surrounding area for individual and team sports and recreation. Business in the past year, however, has been difficult following a devastating roof collapse last February. Even now, while the roof has been fixed, there are still finishing touches being applied to …

Shoppers Support Small Business Saturday

Small businesses don't need Black Friday, they have Small Business Saturday.

With piles of advertisement fliers in hand, many shoppers began their Christmas shopping on Black Friday to take advantage of big box stores' slashed prices on toys, furniture, electronics, clothing and appliances. Now a new day, Small Business Saturday, has hit the frenzied holiday shopping scene. The goal for Small Business Saturday is for shoppers to shop at small independently-owned businesses. The idea was formulated by a group of small business advocates with a Facebook page and is led by American Express. The idea behind the effort is to support small businesses that employ half of all private-sector employees, represent 99.7 percent of all employer firms and to give the $68 of every $100 spent at local businesses back to the …
