Joe Kennedy III will be a new U.S. Congressman from Massachusetts. At around 9:30 p.m., the Associated Press called the race for 32-year old Kennedy, who lives in Brookline, as he was beating by a 2-1 margin Norfolk Republican Sean Bielat in the race to represent the redrawn Fourth Congressional District. Rep. Barney Frank, a media celebrity Tuesday night at Kennedy's celebration party at the Newton Marriott Hotel, is retiring after serving the Fourth District since 1981. At a little after 10 a.m., Republican U.S. hopeful Sean Bielat, along with his wife Hope and two young children, stopped at the Freedman-Kennedy School in Norfolk to cast their ballots for the general election. Sean Bielat faces Democrat Joe Kennedy III in the contest to represent the 4th Congressional District, which includes Attleboro and Seekonk. The race for the Massachusetts Fourth Congressional District seat will take another step forward tonight as the candidates take part in a debate at Wellesley College. Democrat Joe Kennedy III and Republican Sean Bielat will participate in the Massachusetts Fourth Congressional District debate sponsored by the League of Women Voters and Wellesley College. This is the third debate between the candidates, who seek to replace longtime Democratic Congressman Barney Frank. There was a safety valve, and I used it, that is: the absentee ballot. The day I went, I was the only one, so it was great: no lines, easy at-the-door parking. Now, I'm guessing if more people used the absentee ballot route, and town hall started to get jammed up with folks using this safety valve, the economy of one polling place might be given a second look at.
