Obituary: Paulo J. Rodrigues

Paulo J. Rodrigues volunteered his cooking skills at the Moose Lodge in Attleboro.

Rodrigues, 44, of Falmouth Street, Attleboro, a beloved son, brother and uncle passed Sunday, April 28, 2013 in Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in St. Michael, Azores on Jan. 3, 1969, Paulo was a son of Maria (Tavares) Rodrigues of Attleboro and the late Manuel Rodrigues who passed on July 15, 2009. Paulo and his family settled in Attleboro in 1974. He was raised and educated in Attleboro and attended Attleboro High School. Paulo was employed as a chef at the Pawtucket Country Club for the last five years, leaving this February because if illness. Memorial Ride/Fundraiser to Benefit Animal Shelter

The event is in honor of Dick Beaulieu, an Attleboro motorcyclist who was killed during a gas explosion in February.

Attleboro motorcyclist Dick Beaulieu will be remembered Saturday afternoon with a memorial motorcycle ride from La Salette Shrine (947 Park St.) to the Moose Lodge. The ride will be followed by a dinner, live music and a raffle at the lodge. The event is sponsored by the Oakhill Community Residents Association. Beaulieu died of an aparrent heart attack in February shortly after his Oakhill home exploded due to an aparrent gas leak. He was 80. The party will include food donated Boneyard Barbecue and Briggs Corner Pizzeria. It will include nearly 20 raffle items donated by local businesses and a a 50/50 cash raffle. People can sign in for the bike ride at 11 a.m. It will begin at 12 p.m. For $20, people can register for the ride and party. …

There's a lot going on this weekend in Attleboro.

1. There is a fundraiser at Kids Wurld at 11 Toner Blvd., North Attleboro, today to benefit Boston Children's Hospital. 2.The United Regional Chamber of Commerce is hosting its Executive Express-O workshop for business leaders beginning at 8 a.m. at the chamber office in Attleboro. 3. Help warm Attleboro homes during the seventh annual DeAnne Auclair Soup for HEAT fundraiser Saturday, March 5 noon-2 p.m. at the Larson Senior Center. 4. The State Drama Festival, which includes performances by eight schools, will take place Saturday, March 5, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Attleboro High School. 5. Attleboro Youth Baseball is hosting an umpire clinic on Sunday, March 6, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Centennial Gives Attleboro Moose Lodge Reason to Celebrate

Many citizens in Attleboro today might associate the Loyal Order of the Moose Family Center Lodge 463 with its annual Thanksgiving Day dinner they generously sponsor and provide for the poor, needy, lonely and senior citizen shut-ins on that holiday. But as Moose Lodge 463 prepares to celebrate its centennial on February 19, it is certain stories of all kinds will be told and repeated on how this fraternal and service organization has intricately woven itself into the very fabric of Attleboro. Volunteers Kick in for Thanksgiving

Moose Lodge and other community organizations are doing whatever they can to provide holiday meals for anyone who wants one.

Even on Thursday the door to the Thanksgiving Day ‘public’ kitchen is not entirely closed for greater Attleboro residents. For the last week, delivery of meals by waves of volunteers at St. Theresa Church and St. Joseph’s Church, both in Attleboro- among other agencies and organizations- will provide thousands of individuals and families with turkey and other traditional food items, regardless of religious affiliation. While most free meals have been already delivered to those in need, there are still options for those unable to prepare or afford large meals,or for others who might have just moved here. And with the Food N’ Friends Kitchen schedule temporarily suspended on Thanksgiving, that also leaves some without that usual free-meal …
