The grandson of a former selectman and a TV talk show host pull papers for April contests.
Election Day in Seekonk is not until April, but potential candidates are already beginning to prepare for the contests. Michael DelRosso, grandson of former Selectman Robert DelRosso, pulled papers Monday for a potential Board of Selectmen run. Also on Monday, local television talk show host Jeffrey Starr Mararian pulled papers for the school committee contest. Both men must collect 50 signatures from registered Seekonk voters to get their names on the ballot. If DelRosso enters the race, he would face Francis Cavaco, the current BOS chair. Cavaco announced last month that he would seek a new term. His seat is the only one on the BOS up for renewal in April. Cavaco has served on the board since he won a special election in August 2008 to …

Almeida received 639 votes, 32 more than Buckley earned. There were 14 write-in votes. It has not been determined how many of those were for write-in candidate Mararian. He will serve the remainder of former Selectman Bill Rice's term, which expires in April 2014. Rice resigned without explanation in June. "I accomplished my campaign message, which was 'building relationships,'" said Almeida, during his victory party at Luxury Box Sports Bar and Grille. "What I did was I rode my bike and I covered about 70 percent of Seekonk in shorts and a T-shirt, just …

The Seekonk man is the first person to submit nomination papers for the special selectmen election.
Seekonk could soon have its first official candidate in the election to determine Bill Rice's replacement on the Board of Selectmen. One day after pulling nomination papers from Town Hall, Nelson Almeida returned the documents along with what he told Attleboro-Seekonk Patch were 70 signatures. If at least 50 are determined to be from registered local voters, Almeida would be declared an official candidate. This is Almeida's second attempt to get on the board. The political newcomer placed third in the five-candidate contest for two seats in April. He has recently become a regular attendee at selectmen meetings, and was appointed to the Parks and Recreation Committee last month. Patch was unable to contact the Town Clerk's office to find …
