The following letter was submitted by state Sen. James Timilty, whose Bristol & Norfolk District includes Seekonk and most of Attleboro: An Open Letter to the Residents of Attleboro and Seekonk, It is with great humility and gratitude that I write to thank the residents of Attleboro and Seekonk for the privilege and honor to serve you in the Massachusetts Senate for another two years. Over the past decade of knocking on doors and crisscrossing the district, I have enjoyed the opportunity to hear the voices of many parents, small business owners and concerned citizens. Since I was first sworn in to the Massachusetts Senate in January of 2005, I have been working hard to implement change to address those concerns to improve our schools, …

The two differ on health care and government spending as well as whether the state government is transparent.
State Sen. James Timilty and challenger Jeff Bailey had their differences, but they kept the discussion civil Thursday night during an election debate at Attleboro High School. A range of topics were featured during the 50-minute session hosted by The Sun Chronicle and the United Regional Chamber of Commerce, including jobs, state spending and government transparency. Timilty, a Walpole Democrat who has represented the Bristol and Norfolk District (which includes most of Attleboro and several other communities) for eight years, and Bailey, an Attleboro Republican pastor, agreed on some issues. Both said they were against the November ballot measure that would legalize medicinal marijuana and another referendum that would allow physician-…

Timothy Murray will take the tour of the Fall River Avenue facility on Oct. 11.
Lt. Governor Timothy Murray will be in Seekonk on Thursday, Oct. 11th at the invitation of state Sen. James E. Timilty, whose duties include chairman of the public safety & homeland security and member of the Transportation Committee, to tour the Massachusetts Department of Transportation facility on Fall River Avenue. This tour is for the purpose of allowing the town to co-occupy the site for a new south end fire station. We have been working on access to this site since 2009; this location has been identified by our fire chief as a preferred location for a new South Fire Station. Access to this site for a new south station would facilitate our response to the south end, while providing a location with no land acquisition costs. Sen. …

The senator says his record is good and business groups agree.
Jeff Bailey, the Attleboro Republican attempting to unseat Democratic state Sen. James Timilty, recently attacked the incumbent's treatment of small businesses. Timilty responded that his record is good and business groups agree. Following last week's announcement from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development* that statewide unemployment had climbed from 6.1 percent in July to 6.3 percent in August, Bailey issued a statement that Timilty didn't understand "how vital small businesses are to our state." He said his evidence was the senator voting in favor of a bill recently signed by Gov. Deval Patrick into law that Bailey described as "forc[ing] home daycare centers to join state employee unions." Bailey wrote…
