Ward 3 School Committee representative Chris O'Neil will have at least one challenger in his attempt to win a second term. Mayhew Road resident Jessica Bessell pulled papers Tuesday, and she told Attleboro Patch she was "100 percent committed" to running. Bessell is a mother of two young boys, including one who is in kindergarten at Willett Elementary School. The other child will attend kindergarten at Willett next year. The situation at Thacher requires Catherine Zinni's talents in special education and ELL. I am confident she will accomplish great things there as she did at Willett. The entire system and all children in Attleboro will be better served by the change.
The following is addressed to current and future Willett Elementary School parents: I didn't receive the news about Ms. Zinni's transfer until late in the day Friday. I wasn't on-line again until late Sunday night when I was reviewing our materials for the school committee Meeting Monday, at which many of you spoke at open forum. My apologies as I would like to have been more proactive about contacting you over the weekend, particularly the Willett PTO to hear your concerns. I understand that it is disheartening for Willett parents to see Ms. Zinni move to Thacher. She has been great to work with and will be sorely missed.
