Town Preparing for New Buildings

Seekonk s gearing up to build the new Animal Shelter and Banna Fire Station renovations.

Seekonk Town Administrator Pamela Nolan gave updates this week on the progress of the new Animal Shelter, Senior Center and Banna Fire Station renovations. Nolan said that the Banna Fire Station committee had been deciding between a one story building or a two story one and the two story design is the most likely one. The committee has decided to use a modular, prefabricated building to expand the fire station. Plans are still needed to be drawn up in order to get estimates for the project. “We’re at the point now where we’re ready to bid,” Nolan said. Selectmen Approve Funds for Banna Station Plans

The Seekonk Board of Selectmen voted to approve $6,600 for renovation plans for the Richard C. Banna Memorial Fire Station.

The Seekonk Board of Selectmen approved a request for $6,600 by the Banna Station Building Committee to be used to develop schematics relating to the renovation of the building. The Richard C. Banna Fire Station is not currently being used by fire department in any capacity, in contrast to the County Street Fire Station, which is being used to store additional equipment. The committee has begun to make lists of the various issues with the building and have found a boiler that…

6+ grand just for plans? The flood gates have been opened. That station is going to cost way more than anyone thinks. If your going to do it, at least do it right! Remove and replace it! And don't forget to fill it with career firefighters when finished. With the SFD in the news almost daily you would think we have a massive, out of control forest fire going on.   more ›

Street and Building Improvements Dominate Seekonk Selectmen Meeting

The Seekonk Board of Selectmen discuss renovation and permits at their weekly meeting

With several construction projects, building permits, and a citizen’s call to create a list of concrete goals and objectives discussed, town improvement was the priority at Wednesday night’s Seekonk Board of Selectmen meeting. About 20 Seekonk residents, many of whom are members of the Seekonk Planning Board, filled the Town Hall Meeting Room on Peck Street to listen to and speak with Town Administrator Michael Carroll and the five members of the Board of Selectmen: Francis Cavaco, Robert McLintock, chairman David Parker, vice chairman William Rice and John Whelan. Items concerning future construction projects received the most discussion. The selectmen were told that Greenman-Pedersen, Inc. was the engineering firm selected to lead the …

While attending various board meetings one often sees "split" decisions where all members don't agree. There are also many times where further comment leads to extended bickering to no good end. There exists possibilities for fruitful discussions in the future if hand to hand combat doesn't come out of initial conversations. It's taken me a few months to learn some of the teccniques needed to …   more ›
