Attleboro High Falls to Bishop Feehan

The Shamrocks win the battle of Attleboro.

Attleboro's two high schools met in a girls varsity basketball game Monday, and it was Bishop Feehan that claimed the victory over Attleboro High School. The final score was 56-34. Feehan's Sierra Schrader opened the scoring with a drive to the basket, but a reverse layup by Attleboro's Beth Clifton tied the score. The teams exchanged baskets, with Clifton hitting again and Kerri Beland knotting the score at six all.  From there on, the Shamrocks never relinquished the lead and were on top 19-8 at the end of the first quarter. With Attleboro being outscored 18-7 in the second stanza, Feehan took a comfortable 37-15 lead into the locker room. Victory Sends Attleboro Girls to Postseason

A 67-61 victory Thursday on the hard court at Taunton provided the 11th win of the basketball season for the Attleboro High Schoolgirls basketball team, clinching the team a spot in the postseason tournament. The Tigers took a 6-0 lead before a basket by Bri LaPlume put Attleboro on the scoreboard. A three-pointer by Kerri Beland, put back by Makaila Lombardy, and back-to-back scores by Emily Houle (three and a two) brought the Bombardiers to within four at the end of the first quarter. Taunton opened the second quarter with a 6-0 run before Houle hit for two-point basket. Beland was fouled on a drive to the hoop and made both her free throws. Attleboro Girls Win One and Lose One

A victory over Taunton tonight would put the Bombardiers in the postseason tournament.

It was a win and a loss last week for the Attleboro High School girls varsity basketball team. The Bombardiers (10-8) lost to undefeated and state-ranked Oliver Ames last Tuesday, and then recovered two days later with a win over King Philip. The girls play at Taunton tonight, with a win sending them to the postseason tournament. Oliver Ames Game In the opening quarter, the Bombardiers were able to keep within striking distance, with two hoops each by Beth Clifton and Bri LaPlume and a shot from behind the arch by Kim Runey. Bombardiers Unable to Maintain Halftime Lead

A 54-49 loss to Sharon drops Attleboro's record to 9-7. The team needs two more wins to qualify for the postseason.

Attleboro took a 28-19 lead into the locker room at halftime of a road game against Sharon on Friday. However, the Bombardiers were unable to maintain the lead, and fell 54-49. With Kim Runey scoring eight points in the first eight minutes of play and Beth Clifton connecting on a basket, the Bombardiers trailed by just two (12-10) at the close of the first quarter. Runey opened the second quarter with a three-pointer, followed by a Kerri Beland layup, giving Attleboro a 15-12 lead. The girls in blue increased their lead to 17-12 on another Beland hoop. Attleboro Girls Back in the Win Column

After two consecutive losses, the Bombardiers easily defeat Milford.

The Bombardiers' bench strength, free-throw shooting (24 for 33) and full-court press propelled the Attleboro High School girls varsity basketball team to a 58-34 victory Tuesday at home over Hockomock League rival Milford. With the visitors taking an early 4-0 lead, coach Missy Traversi substituted for four of her starting players. Makaila Lombardy (5 rebounds and 3 points) and team captain Sara Blackwell were the spark Attleboro needed.  Lombardy opened the Bombardier scoring, followed by a successful Kirsten Terrien basket. AHS scored the next 7 points with a free throw by Emily Houle, baskets by Terrien and Kerri Beland and two free throws by Blackwell (7 for 8 from the stripe). Attleboro Girls Bested by Taunton

The loss drops the Bombardiers' record to 7-3.

Taunton High School's girls basketball team came away from Attleboro's home court Friday with a 45-38 victory. Angie Martinez, Taunton's 6-foot, 2-inch post player, proved to be a constant threat at both ends (15 points, 16 rebounds and 5 blocked shots). The Tigers opened the scoring with a shot from behind the arc, but Attleboro's Kim Runey countered with her own 3. With 6.5 seconds left on the clock in the first quarter the score was tied. Attleboro's Emily Houle grabbed the rebound from Taunton's desperation shot and the first eight minutes of play ended 10-10. Clifton and Oliver Lead Attleboro to 7th Win

The Bombardiers defeat King Philip 52-33.

The Attleboro High School girls varsity basketball team got off to a slow start Tuesday against King Philip, trailing 10-7 at the end of the first quarter and 22-21 at halftime. KP came out strong in the second half, scoring the first four points and out-rebounding the Bombardiers 6-1 by 5:59 of that quarter. This was followed by Makaila Lombardy hitting a two-point basket, cutting the KP lead to three. Beth Clifton followed with a steal and a score to cut the margin to one point. With the teams exchanging baskets, Clifton hit on two free throws, knotting the score at 30-30.  It was then that Attleboro shifted gears and began to play its type of basketball. Kirsten Terrien put the Bombardiers ahead 32-30 on two free throws. Attleboro Girls Continue Their Winning Ways

The Bombardiers defeat Canton 55-38.

Nine Attleboro High School players got into the box score Friday night with a 55-38 win over Hockomock League foe Canton. Off to a slow first half, the Bombardiers led 9-8 at the end of the first eight minutes and 21-16 at halftime. The girls in blue opened the second half with a three by Kim Runey (16 points, seven for seven from the charity stripe), a three by Kerri Beland and another three by Runey. The Bombardiers continued to pour it on with Beth Clifton scoring the next six points. At the end of the third quarter, Attleboro led 40-27. Beland scored first for the blue in the final stanza. Attleboro Defeats Dartmouth

The Bombardiers improve to 5-2 with a 52-41 victory.

The Attleboro High School girls basketball team earned another victory and this time, from the free throw line. The Bombardiers came away with a 52-41 victory over Dartmouth on Thursday at home. Beth Clifton opened up the scoring at 7:01 of the first quarter and Attleboro never trailed. In the first eight-minute segment, the teams traded baskets and Attleboro led 15-14 going into the second quarter. The girls in blue tightened up their defense and held Dartmouth to just five points in the second period, taking a 25-19 lead at the break. Attleboro came out strong in the third quarter, scoring the first four points and taking a 10-point lead into the final eight minutes of play. Attleboro Girls Fall to North Attleboro

Attleboro and North Attleboro battled for the first 24 minutes Friday in the latest edition of a long-contested rivalry, but the girls in blue could not hold on for the final eight-minute segment and lost a hard fought game 62-49. The loss drops the Bombardiers to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in league play. At the end of the first eight minutes of play, North Attleboro held a 12-9 lead, and at halftime the score was knotted 26-26. The finish of the third quarter found North Attleboro up by one, and it appeared to be anyone's game.
