Wine Coming to Attleboro Farmers Market

The liquor board approves a request for Coastal Vineyards of South Dartmouth to sell wine at the local market.

Attleboro Farmers Market will be at a new location (Finberg Field) when it opens for a third season June 15, and it will also have at least one new product for sale—wine. The city's liquor board voted Tuesday to approve a request for Coastal Vineyards of South Dartmouth to sell wine at the market. The sale of wine from "a licensed farm winery" has been allowed at farmers markets and other "approved agricultural events" since 2010, when Gov. Deval Patrick signed a Senate bill into law. AFM President Heather Porreca was pleased the local market was granted permission to take advantage of the state law. "AFM couldn't be more excited to bring our customers their number one request, a local vineyard," wrote Porreca in an email to Attleboro …

The Attleboro Farmers Market will take place next year at Finberg Field.

There will be no repeat of Library v. Attleboro Farmers Market next year. AFM officials announced in a press release issued Tuesday that they will move the operation from the controversial parking lot next to the Attleboro Library on North Main Street to Finberg Field, located on Park Street across from Bliss Bros. Dairy. "The new location will provide more space for vendors, more parking for visitors at the market and more flexibility for everyone," AFM officials wrote. "We will be kicking off the 2013 Season in mid-June and running through the end of October. AFM will continue to bring the wonderful items that you have come to enjoy each and every Saturday morning with Finberg Field as our backdrop." The release states the move was made…

This is a sigh of relief knowing that we will …   more ›

Life-Saving Blood Collected at Farmers Market

Thirty-four pints are donated.

Lots of bleeding took place Saturday morning at the Attleboro Farmers Market, but it was the good kind. The American Red Cross collected 34 pints of blood from donors. That is enough blood to save 102 lives, based on the Red Cross equation that one pint can help three people. Farmers Market visitors were notified about the blood drive through a sign held by a metal figure created with recycled material by local artist Jay Gafford.
