Sending Warmth to Marines Overseas

A local woman is a co-leader in a project to send more than 300 homemade blankets to Marines in Afghanistan.

When Attleboro resident Rose McGrath heard a New Hampshire woman with a son in the same U.S. Marine Corps unit as her son was looking for help to provide homemade blankets to marines stationed in Afghanistan, she decided to jump into action. They collected more than 300 no-sew blankets that feature various patterns, many with a local flavor, as well as notes of encouragement and love. McGrath posted a notice on Facebook to seek help from family and friends. Getting that help was not a problem. Several people made their own blankets and got others to do it as well Among them were students in a class of her friend's daughter. They also provided notes of encouragement with the blankets. Norton Soldier Wounded in Afghanistan Dies

Master Sgt. Gregory R. Trent was 38.

U.S. Army Master Sgt. Gregory R. Trent of Norton died Wednesday at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Maryland from wounds suffered in Afghanistan, according to the Department of Defense. He was 38. Trent was wounded July 31 in Baktabad when his unit was attacked, according to the Department of Defense. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group in Fort Bragg, N.C.
