Keith Beland, a 22-year-old Attleboro resident, was one of two men arrested Saturday in New Bedford after local police said they were seen in a vehicle involved in a May 1 Fall River carjacking, the New England Business Bulletin reported. Also arrested was Curtis Cruz, 33, of New Bedford. The Bulletin reported: Detective Capt. Steven Vicente, head of the New Bedford Police Department's Major Crimes Unit, said police do not believe either man was involved in the actual carjacking. Detectives Jonathan Lagoa and Evan Bielski of the Organized Crime and Intelligence Bureau saw the car in the parking lot at the 7-Eleven convenience store, Acushnet and Coffin avenues, about 1 p.m. Saturday and took the two occupants into custody.
The scam happened in Braintree.
A 50-year-old Attleboro man was defrauded of $800 last week after he fell victim to a scam at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree, local Police Chief Russell Jenkins said in a statement. A man claiming to be the victim's UPS delivery driver told him his brother-in-law "Henry" worked at Sears and had 65-inch LED TVs for sale at a discounted price, Jenkins said. In the parking lot outside Sears, "Henry" took the money from the Attleboro man and gave him a fake receipt. He never returned. The incident happened at the intersection of Pine and School streets.
A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle late Monday afternoon at the intersection of Pine and School streets, witnesses said. The person was taken to a hospital via ambulance, said people living in a home near the scene. They declined to elaborate on the situation. The incident was reported shortly before 5 p.m. Police investigated the scene until about 5:30 p.m. Attleboro police were unavailable for comment for the remainder of Monday. The Sun Chronicle reported via an Attleboro fire official that the victim was a teenager who was struck on a minibike by an SUV. She suffered "mostly cuts and scrapes," according to the newspaper.

Streets around the hospital are closed while police and firefighters investigate the scene.
A reported "suspicious" package found Wednesday morning in the parking lot at the main entrance of Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro turned out to be a toy car, Attleboro Police Chief Kyle Heagney said. Hospital security contacted police about the item at about 9:15 a.m. Firefighters and the state police bomb squad were sent to the scene. Streets around the hospital were closed. "A secure perimeter was established around the device of approximately 400 to 500 feet out of precaution," wrote Heagney in an email to Attleboro Patch. "It was subsequently determined that the device was a toy which had an instrument attached to it. The toy was left at that location by accident. Federal law officials believe three classmates of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev destroyed evidence in Darmouth while the suspected bombing brothers fought police in a gunfight in Watertown. In a complaint filed in federal court Wednesday, special agent Scott Cieplik claims suspect Dias Kadyrbayev and Azamat Tazhayakov destroyed or concealed a laptop and backpack filled with fireworks. Third suspect Robel Phillipos, meanwhile, is being charged with lying to federal officials. According to the complaint, the April 18 night started when Kadyrbayev texted Tsarnaev, needling his friend about his resemblance to the FBI photos released earlier that day. Boston Police announced a major new development in the Boston Marathon bombing case Wednesday morning. According to the department, there are three new suspects in custody. Boston Police tweeted the news just after 11 a.m. Wednesday. There were no further details, though the police said they would offer more information soon. Mayor Kevin Dumas and the city councilors showed their appreciation last week for two members of the Attleboro Police Department who participated in the multi-agency law enforcement effort to find the Boston Marathon bombing suspects. Sgt. Brett Poirier was presented with resolutions at the council meeting. Detective Kevin Fuoco, who could not be there because he was on a planned vacation, was also recognized. Fuoco and Poirier participated in the effort in Boston and Watertown as members of the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council, which includes officers from various area law enforcement agencies.
