Donate Food, Clothes, Toys and Money to Seekonk Families

Seekonk Human Services is seeking donations of a variety of items for the holidays.

is collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donations to give Christmas dinner baskets to needy families in town.

Canned goods, non-perishable items and gift cards can be dropped off at the Human Services office at 320 Pleasant St. Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Checks can be made payable to “Seekonk Human Services Holiday Meals."

Items like turkey, ham, stuffing, potatoes, yams, vegetables, cranberry sauce, gravy, pumpkin pie and other desserts are all needed.

The baskets and hot meals will be going to Seekonk residents who may not be able to get food from the Doorways food pantry for one reason or another. Many are families where the adults are employed but are still struggling to make ends meet.

“Anything extra is tough for them,” said Huck.

The hot meals are being made and delivered by a local family. The meals will be going to shut-ins and others who may not have family and without the visit from the person delivering the meal might otherwise not see anyone else on Christmas.

“Sometimes they don’t see anybody for weeks,” Seekonk Human Services Director Bernadette Huck said.

Hot meals will be provided to seniors on Christmas Day. If you or someone you know will be alone on Christmas Day or is a shut-in and would like a hot meal delivered, contact Seekonk Human Services at 508-336-8772.

Additionally, Human Services is also collecting items and gifts for their annual Giving Tree. Donations of gift cards for grocery stores, pharmacy’s and gas or phone cards are welcome. Additionally, winter clothing donations such as hats, gloves and scarfs are also welcome.

Toys are also welcome donations for Christmas is for Kids, but Huck reminds people that there is also need for gifts for older children and teenagers.
