Canines Delight in Paws for the Cause Petwalk [VIDEO]
Friends of Attleboro Animal Shelter, in conjunction with the Attleboro Moose Lodge, hosted the 8th annual Paws for the Cause Petwalk on Saturday.
While the City of Attleboro covers routine dog care, canines with special needs are often left without complete treatment.
The Friends of Attleboro Animal Shelter steps in at that point. Committed to the full care of animals, including microchipping to guarantee a safe return in the event of an encounter with Animal Control, Friends of Attleboro Animal Shelter held its 8th annual Paws for the Cause Petwalk this past Saturday.
The event was held in conjunction with the Attleboro Moose Lodge, the local chapter of a nationwide community service organization.

Nancy Robinson, president of the Friends of Attleboro Animal Shelter, said the 2011 petwalk was "the biggest ever." The event generally raises between $4,000 and $6,000, with proceeds coming from the registration fee and vendor contributions.
"People continue coming 'cause it's fun, and dogs get a chance to socialize," she said.

Registrants and their canines were able to participate in a 1.5 mile walk behind the premises of the Attleboro Moose Lodge. There were also a variety of contests including "Best Kisser" and an owner-canine lookalike competition.
Members of the Attleboro Moose grilled hot dogs and hamburgers for the dog owners. There was also a bounce house for children and music playing from a tent.
Daniel Corcoran, community service chairman of the Attleboro Moose Lodge, said the event keeps "getting bigger and bigger every year."
In addition to the petwalk, opportunities to donate to the animal shelter continue throughout the year. An annual fundraising dinner-dance known as the "Fur Ball" will be held in February.
