Attleboro Elks Honor Area Youth

Several Attleboro Area youth honored for hard work.

More than 40 Attleboro area middle and high school students were honored by at a dinner and awards ceremony held Thursday night in the lodge's Golden Antler function room. 

 "We've been holding Youth Appreciation Nights for over 30 years here in Attleboro," Exalted Ruler Richard Farmer said.  "Elks nationwide are honoring our nation's future leaders."

 The award recipients were nominated by teachers, principals and volunteer coordinators for their community contributions, academic excellence or service within an organization.

Esteemed Loyal Knight Roch Goyette, who serves as  the youth activities director explained that the city of Attleboro benefits greatly from the services provided by area organizations such as the Boy and Girl Scouts, local 4H Clubs and the Junior Volunteers.

 Attleboro Mayor Kevin Dumas, Rep. George Ross and Sen. James Timilty addressed the students, offering words of thanks and encouragement.

Following the presentation of award certificates Exalted Ruler Richard Farmer addressed the honorees.

"You are truly leaders among your peers," Farmer said.  "The Elks are dedicated to our community and giving back to the community is what it's  all about.

"I hope to see you back here as future adult leaders in our community, and hopefully future members of the Elks."
