Attleboro Celebrates National Volunteer Week

Area Volunteer Agencies Recognized

The countless hours that volunteers provide to Attleboro's churches, schools and non-profit agencies in the city were honored and their altruism was celebrated throughout the city this week in honor of National Volunteer Week. 

On behalf of President Barack Obama, Attleboro's Mayor Kevin Dumas officially proclaimed April 14, 2011 as the 26 annual "Volunteer Day" in a celebration held  at 's Bray Auditorium.

Thursday's festivities were designed to say "Thank You" to the approximately 100 volunteer agencies in the Attleboro area who help members of the community on a daily basis. State Representatives  Betty Poirier, Jay Barrows and other dignitaries presented  award certificates to the volunteers who made their way to center stage while AHS Jazz Ensemble provided toe-tapping entertainment under the direction of Kelly Shimel.

held its appreciation celebration at the North Main Street church to thank its slew of volunteers who clean and decorate the church, read and teach. 

Hebron Food Pantry also held a special celebration for all its volunteers on Monday who help serve food to the hungry in the Attleboro area. Hebron Pantry has a large group that come together each week to pick up, organize and deliver good food choices to more than 200 families. Its board gathered approximatley 80 volunteers at the Moose Lodge to celebrate.
