Seekonk Boys Soccer Dominates at Case High School

For the second straight game, Warriors earn a shutout

Wearing their navy blue away shirts under a bright sun, the Seekonk boys varsity soccer team easily handled Case on Wednesday, defeating the Swansea team by a score of 3-0.

The Cardinals showed some mettle right away, bringing the ball deep into the Seekonk end, but were foiled when sophomore defender Nick Smith headed the ball downfield to break up any momentum. Junior Dan Saggal took a clean pass from sophomore Mike Pariseau but lobbed the ball over the net.

However, it wouldn't be long before Seekonk got on the board, as just a minute later, senior co-captain Jeff Magina received a pass from sophomore James Eline. Shooting from the right side of the net, Magina tipped the ball past sophomore keeper Bryan Radevicz. The Warriors, who continue to develop their passing game, duplicated the attempt a couple of minutes later but the shot went just wide on the right side.

Case didn't manage a shot on goal until 15 minutes into the game, and even then didn't challenge senior keeper Jake Silva as the ball rolled wide right. Silva's first save came a couple of minutes later, the keeper catching the attempt from a free kick.

At the 25 minute mark, the Warriors went up 2-0 as Eline served up his second assist, handing the ball off to fellow sophomore Matt Marques. Marques' sure foot beat keeper Radievicz easily on his left side.

The Cardinals had probably their best scoring opportunity of the game at about the 31 minute mark, when a free kick just outside the Seekonk box rolled through the wall of Seekonk defenders. Silva dove for the ground, making the save and keeping Case scoreless.

Seekonk senior forward Jake Findlay, who used his speed and strength in playing a very strong game, capitalized ten minutes into the second half. Taking a pass from senior Kunakan "Knight" Wirrasamnee, Findlay finessed the ball just over keeper Radevicz's  right shoulder for Seekonk's third goal of the game.

Play continued to be dominated by the Warriors as the second half continued, with senior Dallas Sollitto proving to be a sold threat. Sollitto had a couple of shots on net and was in the mix throughout the half.

Senior keeper Branden George played the second half in net, and preserved the shutout victory for the Warriors. Seekonk was foiled several times on offsides calls forced by the Case defenders and play got chippy at times with senior co-captain John Pazienza receiving a yellow card after tangling with a Case defender. Saggal was also called for a yellow card in the second half.

Junior forward Mike Pereira's shot on goal in the game's final minute hit the post and just missed going in.....the Cardinals played with only one sub....the Warriors next game is Friday, Sept. 30, at home against Somerset....the game rained out earlier in the season at Dighton-Rehoboth has been rescheduled for Monday, Oct. 31.
