STURDY MEMORIAL FOUNDATION ANNUAL MEETING HELD

YEAR-END RESULTS REPORTED,

OUTGOING BOARD MEMBERS RECOGNIZED,

AND COMMUNITY LEADERS NAMED TO FOUNDATION

ATTLEBORO, MA, January 14, 2014 – Sturdy Memorial Foundation, Inc., the not-for-profit parent organization of Sturdy Memorial Hospital, held its annual meeting last evening at Highland Country Club in Attleboro. The agenda included the recognition of long standing Board member Michael Poissant, whose Board term has concluded. Poissant has been a Foundation member for more than a quarter of a century, since 1988, and served in numerous member and leadership capacities since 1998, including as Chairman of the Board; Treasurer; Chairman of the Finance Investment and Pension Committees; as well as Chairman of the Foundation’s durable medical equipment company, S.H.V. Inc.. Sharon Mullane, MD, who served as a Past President of the Medical Staff, is also coming off the Board. One new Board member was elected – Greg Kayata, Vice President of Human Resources for Covidien in Mansfield. In addition, four members of the community were elected to the Foundation.  

Chairman of the Board Timothy O’Neill acknowledged that Sturdy Memorial Hospital President and Chief Executive Officer Linda Shyavitz’s annual report to members of the Foundation was her last. Shyavitz has announced plans to retire on March 1, 2014. She will be succeeded by Bruce S. Auerbach, MD, who currently serves the Hospital as Vice President and Medical Director.

Members and guests attending the meeting were told that the Hospital had maintained its positive financial status for the 28th consecutive year. The Hospital's bottom line from current year operations was $9,603,334. Operating expenses for the year totaled $149 million, which included $8 million in uncompensated care for services provided to those who could not or would not pay.  

            In her annual report, Shyavitz highlighted noteworthy Hospital accomplishments in Fiscal Year 2013.  She recounted with pride a remarkable year, in which the Hospital celebrated its centennial, and expressed gratitude to the organization’s staff and supporters for their contributions to the fiscal year’s success, noting she was especially pleased with being able to continue to provide excellent, quality health care to patients, where they work and live.
