'Team Effort' Sparks Trip to South Sectional Finals For Big Blue

Attleboro bested Bridgewater Raynham Friday, 40-14

Attleboro football will play in the Div. I South Sectional Finals next week.

The Blue Bombardiers defeated Bridgewater-Raynham, 40-14, Friday in an well-rounded effort. Big Blue will play the winner of Saturday's Xavarian vs. BC High game.

"Our kids have been resilient all year," Attleboro coach Mike Strachan said of his team. "They do what theyr’e asked, they finish strong, we take it play by play and we’ve taken it week by week. We’re just looking for our next opponent next weekend."

Attleboro was led by quarterback Tim Walsh, who went 6 for 11 passing, throwing for 132 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also ran for an 2 pt conversion and led the team in rushing with 98 yards on the ground.

"He does some great things with his feet and he can do some great things with his arm," Strachan said. ".. it was a great team effort for us."

Walsh was complimented by his backs and receivers. Slot back Damon Belin ran for 86 yards on 21 carries, including two touchdowns on the ground. The junior back caught an 11-yd pass for a touchdown, too.

Belin's first rushing touchdown came in the first quarter, capping a 67 yard drive by the Blue Bombarders. His 14-yard scoring carry was in response to an early B-R touchdown that gave the Trojans an 7-0 lead.

"[B-R] ate a lot of clock in the first quarter," Strachan said. "They did a really good job but I thought we settled down."

After B-R's Brandon Gallagher took a fake punt 52-yards for a score, Belin answered again with an 11-yard touchdown reception from Walsh.

The Blue Bombardiers didn't look back after senior runningback Dave Duquette ran the ball in from 12 yards out in the second quarter. Duquette finished the day with 65-yds rushing and 44 yds receiving to compliment his touchdown.

Fellow senior Tommy Burns ran for 50 yds and finished with 47 yds receiving and a touchdown. He also had some key third down receptions.

"Tommy is a special athlete," Strachan said. "He’s a great leader – plays both ways for us. He makes big plays. He’s not the fastest kid we have on the team, but pound for pound the toughest and he’s an inspiration on the team."

The time, date and place of next week's South Sectional Finals is still to be determined.
