Bishop Feehan Shamrocks Beat Attleboro to Win Holiday Tournament

The Bishop Feehan boys' basketball team beat Attleboro 58-47 to win the North Attleboro Holiday Tournament for the 6th time overall.

Thursday night it was the Bishop Feehan Lady Shamrocks' turn.

Friday night, the Shamrock boys' basketball tam  completed the sweep of area holiday tournaments with a 58-47 victory over the Attleboro High Bombardiers.

The win was Bishop Feehan's sixth title in the 36-year history of the torunament at North Attleboro High School and was revenge for the loss last week at home against the Bombardiers.

Even before the game. Feehan head coach Matt Freeman was fired up and ready to get his team out there and the players matched his intensity, especially on the defensive end of the floor.

The Bombardiers (3-2) had a horrible shooting night and the Shamrocks (5-1) doiminated the defensive glass. Feehan also handled the ball well-enough against the Attleboro pressure to get their offense going.

Freeman was very proud of his team's effort calling it in the team meeting their "best defensive effort of the season." He said, "We got a hand up on shooters. We rebounded real well. We limited their second shot opportunities and that's the only way we can beat this team is if we get the tempo going the way we want it to."

On the opposite bench, Attleboro head coach Mark Houle was disappointed in missed opportunities on the offensive end. "We didn't shoot very well," he said. "Sometimes, we forced some shots up and bottom line you got to score some hoops too. I thought we had some chances to make runs and we didn't finish."

It was a four-point game as the clock ticked off the final seconds of the third quarter when senior guard Chris Adams knocked down a dagger from three. JJ Jolaoso managed 14 points, knocked down a three midway through the fourth to bring Attleboro within seven, but Adams was there again.

The tournament MVP buried another from long range that put the game away and afterwards he left his hand in the air and jumped into his teammates showing just how much this win meant for the team.

"We lost to Attleboro the last four or five times we played them so they've kind of had our number the last couple of years. To get them today meant a lot," said Freeman.

The biggest difference between last Wednesday's loss to Attleboro and this week's victory was Feehan's ability to hit free throws down the stretch.

The Shamrocks went 10 of 11 from the line, including their last eight to make sure there would be no comeback. Adams led the team with 11 points, senior captains Andrew Murphy and Brenden Fowler each had nine.

The Bombardiers were led by Jolaoso's 14 points but also got 10 each from Tim Walsh (eight in the fourth quarter) and Stephen Edmonds.

"Our defense wasn't too bad but it was the offensive end, we just didn't get it done," said Houle.Adams was named the tournament MVP and he was joined on the all-tournament team by his teammate Brenden Fowler,  Jolaoso, Taunton's Gerald Cortijo-Pamilia and North Attleboro's Sean Peters.
