Seekonk Speedway to Ring in the Fourth With a Bang

The Independence Day Thrill Show will feature racers from Southern New England. The night ends with a fireworks display.

You might need some earplugs at the Seekonk Speedway on Sunday, July 3. In addition to the usual roar of racer engines, a cacophony of sounds will explode in the sky during the Independence Day Thrill Show.

The show includes powder puff racing, enduro drags and races, tuck races, spectator drags, according to spokesman Ed St. Germain. This year, an Ultimate 50 Lap Enduro is capped off with a firework display. Gates open at 2:30 p.m.; the show starts at 5 p.m.

The racers for the events are not only professionals, according to St. Germain. There are usually about 200 drivers from all around southern New England in all the different events. Most drive their own car; some raise money for charity.
