Seekonk Golf Players Aim for Playoffs [VIDEO]

The Warrior golf team starts the year at 3-2, hoping to make the playoffs.

Seekonk Warrior Golf is off to a 3-2 start, and the team is looking to stay better than .500 so they can make the playoffs this year. The team has a strong core of upperclassmen leaders.

Junior captain Patrick McDole and Senior captain Sean Corry have been playing in the first pairing. Alex Lansing and Anthony Guglielmo, two more juniors, fill in the second pairing. Tyler Turcotte, a senior who is playing his fourth season with the team, anchors the fifth spot.

When the team has had problems this season, coach Mike Petrucci says they stem from inconsistency in their sixth and final starting position.

"We've had a lot of competition between our younger players for that spot," said Petrucci at Tuesday's match with Fairhaven, which went Seekonk's way. The coach went on, "We really need to develop a consistent option there."

But these types of fluxuations at the bottom of the lineup are common, and Petrucci says he's seen an improvement in the level of competition for jobs up and down the card. "The bottom line is playing. And these kids have been playing a lot of golf," said Petrucci.

The coach credits helpful partnerships with both and  with helping raise the level of competition.

Ledgemont, which hosts the majority of the home matches for Seekonk, offers a discounted rate for junior memberships for Seekonk High School players. Firefly, which hosts home matches when Ledgemont is unavailable, has offered what Petrucci calls "virtually unlimited practice time."
