Outgoing Football Coach Kevin Deschenes Honored By Attleboro School Committee

Deschenes is retiring as the football coach after 20 years with the Blue Bombardiers.

Former Attleboro football coach Kevin Deschenes was honored by the Attleboro School Committee this week.

Deschenes, who has been a coach in Attleboro since 1988, as an assistant coach between '88 and 2001 and the head coach from 2002 to 2012 received high praise from the committee.

"He coached for the kids and has taught many life lessons to them through his 20 years of coaching at Attleboro High School," school committee vice chair Brenda Furtado said, who presented the award at the Monday meeting that aired on doubleacs.com.

Michael Strachan was announced as the Bombardiers' new head coach in February.

According to Furtado, Strachan will have big shoes to fill.

"[Deschenes] instilled a sense of pride in the football program, starting with the gridiron club, football youth night and summer camps."

Deschenes, who will continue to be a teacher in Attleboro, thanked his wife, Michelle and the student athletes.

"The honor is mine to be able to coach in my alma mater in the city I live," he said.
