Lexi Sells reaches milestone in Bishop Feehan's Hoop victory

Senior guard Lexi Sells reached her 1,000th career point against crosstown rivals Attleboro in a blowout win for the Lady Shamrocks.

Bishop Feehan senior guard Lexi Sells reached the personal milestone of her 1,000th career point in front a packed home gymnasium as the Lady Shamrocks cruised to a 78-38 victory over Attleboro High. Sells needed 17 points to reach the 1,000 point barrier and knocked down a jumper midway through the second quarter to achieve it.

After the game, Sells, who finished the night with 19 points and sat out most of the second half, was thrilled about the large crowd and the support that she has had at Feehan, "I'm so appreciative of everyone coming out tonight, waving their signs, and cheering me on. It meant so much, I have the best support."

When asked about reaching the milestone so quickly a visibly relieved Sells said, "I'm so glad it's over. It changes your game in ways you don't even know. I know all the girls so to do it against Attleboro was special."

Coach Mike Deady had nothing but praise for his star player both on and off the court, "She's a remarkable young woman. She's bright, she has great sense of humor, she's hard-working, she's an outstanding student, she's really the full package. I'm so glad to have her as a part of our team."

The night was not as pleasant for the Lady Bombardiers who were overwhelmed by Feehan's full-court pressure and up-tempo style and trailed at halftime, 50-16.

Attleboro was without star Bri Hochwarter, who was injured during the summer and will miss the entire season, and senior Emily Mayer, who broke her nose and was inactive. The lack of ball handlers led to a number of turnovers against the press.

This was the first time that head coach Missy Traversi, herself a 1,000 point scorer at Feehan, visited her alma mater on the Attleboro bench and she knew what to expect from the Lady Shamrocks. She said, "The kids just keep coming at you and coming at you and we just could not withstand their ball pressure. We're trying to get our kids to not just look at the hoop but see the gaps. We're trying to teach them the fundamentals and Feehan has graduated from that and then some."

Deady agreed that his team's effort wore down the short bench of the Lady Bombardiers, "It started to pay dividends in the second quarter. Our kids work hard. Attleboro battled against us, it's just a discrepancy in talent. Attleboro's our crosstown rival and we want to put on a good showing and we did tonight."

Feehan (2-1) and Attleboro (1-3) will have a week off and take to the court in the Attleboro Holiday Tournament next Tuesday at Attleboro High.
