Four Seekonk Baseball Players Named All-Stars [Video]

The South Coast Conference selected its all-star team for the 2011 baseball season, and four Warriors are a part of the select group.

Andrew Killian lead Seekonk's lineup with a .432 batting average, which is part of the reason the senior catcher was named to his second consecutive Sout Coast Conference all-star team. Killian was joined on the first team by junior teammate Matt Foley, who hits cleanup and closes games for the Warriors.

Coach Joe Demelo had high praise for his two first-team all-stars. "Killian had a great year; he runs the team pretty much," said Demelo, adding perhaps the biggest compliment a captain can be paid: "He leads by example."

Despite his praise for Foley, Demelo noted that the heavy hitter is nowhere near his own ceiling. "He's the biggest raw talent we have, very raw. If he can learn how to focus his talent and control his emotions, he will be an athlete to be reckoned with ... that's not just in baseball," Demelo said of the center fielder (who also plays center for the boys' basketball team).

Seekonk was also honored with two honorable mentions for the all-star team: seniors Dylon Swift and Sean Heaney.

Swift, the team's starting third baseman, is second to Killian with a .395 average. Heaney, almost undeniably the most talented defensive player on the team, hits .342 and is a dynamic force on the basepaths.

Starting pitcher Branden George was also named the team's sportsman of the year.

"I'm honored to be awarded this. On the field I've kept it together a lot better this year. Just trying to keep my head," said George of the honor.

George also highlighted the contributions of the second-team all-stars, Heaney and Swift. "They run a good, tight ship on the infield," George said of the starting third baseman and shortstop.
