Rival North Squash Attleboro High Bombardiers in Annual Thanksgiving Day Game

The North Attleboro High School Rocketeers won over Attleboro 14-7.

The game finished closer than many had predicted but in the end the result was pretty familiar as the fell at Raymond Beaupre Field 14-7 to the North Attleboro Rocketeers.

In a game dominated by the two defenses Attleboro just couldn’t make enough plays but the 35 seniors playing their final game can hold their heads high after a great effort.

The Bombardiers defense matched North play for play with Tyler Lindsay making two interceptions and Balfour Defensive Player of the Game, Zach Schweiger, was all over the field and seemingly in every tackle.

The lone score of the game was an 85-yard touchdown run by Malique Clark that tied the game at 7 on the last play of the third quarter.

Coach Kevin Deschenes was proud of the defensive effort and was not surprised by how tough it was to score against the Rocketeers, “You know what you’re going to get when you play North. Their defense has been their strength this season. Matt (Defensive Coordinator Bosh) did a great job scheming this week. We just couldn’t put it in the end zone.”

Balfour Offensive Player of the Game, Spyro Varetimos, answered Clark’s score with a one-yard TD on 4th and goal on the first drive of the 4th quarter. Varetimos fumbled as he crossed the line but the ball took a fortuitous bounce, as it always seems too on Thanksgiving Day, and it went straight back into his hands.   The loss means Attleboro finish the season at 7-4 and take 4th place in the Kelly-Rex Division behind a menacing trio of (who claimed the playoff spot with a win over Franklin), and North.

Coach Deschenes, “You have to be able to beat those guys and that’s the tough thing. It’s good football. You got three top teams in the state that are always working hard. It’s at all levels, freshman, JV; we’re just trying to keep developing.”
