Volunteers Needed for Schools Chief Search

The Seekonk school district looks to hire a superintendent by the end of the year.

A Seekonk school district parent and a community member without a child in the district are needed for the superintendent search steering committee. Those interested in joining the committee have until Monday at 5 p.m. to apply.

Applicants should email School Committee Chair Mitch Vieira at vieiram@seekonk.k12.ma.us. The email should include reasons why the applicant would be a good person to serve on the committee.

The search committee will also include Vieira, Town Administrator Pam Nolan, a teachers union representative, a building principal and a central office administrator.

Vieira told Seekonk Patch that an official timeline has not been established, but a tentative schedule calls for posting the job notice next month, interviews in September and the hiring of a superintendent by the end of the year.

Madeline Meyer as superintendent, despite having been given . No official reason has been given for her decision to quit. Various sources familiar with the situation say the teachers union, which frequently butted heads with Meyer, was prepared to take a no confidence vote against the superintendent over allegations of plagiarism.

Arlene Bosco, the district's director of pupil personnel services, is serving as interim superintendent.
