For This Group, Halftime Is the Real Show

About 90 students practice all week to perform before football audiences.

Music filled the air as the Seekonk High School (SHS) Warrior Marching Band practiced on a recent school morning. Normally the adolescent musicians start off their day at 7:30 a.m. in the music room; from there they march in cadence to Seekonk High School's field. But the music didn't die as they proceeded to the field. Because for them, the march is the main stage.

Once on the field, the full marching band comprised of 90 students performed intense drills full of dance moves and flag bearer tricks. To get the band primed for football games and parades, John Smialek, director of bands at the high school, helps conduct the band during practices.

Later this year, the marching band will be performing as part of a Cruise Festival, aboard the Royal Caribbean Cruise Liner, Explorer of the Seas, which will be part of a six-day trip to Bermuda.
