UPDATE: Attleboro Superintendent Says Safety Number One Concern After Alleged Rape

Attleboro Superintendent Pia Durkin said incident at Coelho was isolated.

One day after a 15-year-old Attleboro student was arrested and charged with rape, Attleboro Superintendent Pia Durkin said parents need to know that safety of students at is her number one concern.

Some Coelho parents say they're upset that they were not made aware of the alleged rape, which took place at the school while classes were in session. The parents said that as of Wednesday morning they had yet to been notified of the incident.

"This has been an active ongoing police investigation for which the school has cooperated fully and under strict guidelines," Durkin said. "When the school learned of the allegation a week after it was stated to have occurred, we worked swiftly, closely and correctly with the police."
