Union Did Not Force Superintendent to Resign, School Officials Say
The Seekonk School Committee and the Seekonk Educators Association release a joint statement specifying Superintendent Madeline Meyer's resignation "has nothing to do with the" union.
Perhaps responding to community speculation that the Seekonk Educators Association played a hand in , the teachers union and School Committee released a joint statement late Wednesday insisting the teachers union had no involvement.
"Let us be clear: this is a personnel issue between the School Committee and the superintendent, and has nothing to do with the SEA," the release states.
The release continues, "It is critical during this period of transition in the district that the focus of all concerned—the School Committee, the SEA, the staff, the parents, the students and the citizens of Seekonk—be on continuing to move forward for the good of the students we serve, and not on finger-pointing or blame."

Meyer resigned Friday morning after nearly three years at the helm. No official reason has been given for why she quit, and School Committee members said they would not comment on the matter during the meeting on Monday. Several sources told Attleboro-Seekonk Patch that the union had planned to take a no-confidence on Meyer due to allegations of plagiarism.

in March to extend Meyer's contract through 2015. The decision followed the committee's mostly positive performance of Meyer. The teachers union called the evaluation a "professional embarrassment," and released its own negative review of Meyer's performance.
