Schools Superintendent Search Begins

The Seekonk district expects to make an appointment in March, with the person starting work July 1.

Job seekers can apply for the position as superintendent of the Seekonk school district beginning today. The district will accept applications through Nov. 1. According to the job posting, which appears on the district's website and will be included in various online and print media, the district will make an appointment in March and the person will begin working July 1.

The job listing calls for a person who is "a motivated educational leader with a strong background in school finance, collaborative management and communications skills." The person must have at least a master's degree and five years of administrative and/or central office experience. A salary is not mentioned in the posting. An attached brochure says the appointee would be offered a "competitive" salary for a three-year contract with negotiable benefits.

"The School Committee is looking forward to receiving high quality candidates for this position and moving forward with the search process (timeline listed on brochure)," School Committee Chair Mitch Vieira wrote in an email to Seekonk Patch. "While the search takes place, the district is in the capable hands of our interim superintendent, Mrs. Arlene Bosco, who will lead us through this year."

The district has been without a superintendent since May 18, when Madeline Meyer resigned. No official reason was given for her sudden departure, but various sources say the teachers union planned to take a no-confidence vote on Meyer due to multiple allegations of plagiarism.
