Update: Newcomers Elected to Attleboro School Committee

Voters put five new faces on the Attleboro School Committee.

The race for Attleboro School Committee turned out close results with two veteran School Committee members, and Bob Hill replaced by newcomers Bill Larson and . Also new to room 178E as a committee member is . Parent, who decided to run after being fed up with members' responses to the adding full-day kindergarten, beat out Michael Levinson for the Ward 6 seat.

"Mr. Levinson ran a very strong campaign and I feel very fortunate to have won. I thank all the residents who came out to support me," Parent said. "After all the hard work I put into the last couple of months, I now look forward to a collaborative effort of the new school committee."

"I'm just looking forward to working with the new committee and thankful for Bob's work," O'Neil said. "We ran a clean and gentlemanly campaign. Our first order of business is replacing Marc Furtado (former business manager). We have big shoes to fill."

Laura Dolan, who went up against long-time veteran Francis Zito but lost, garnered the highest percentage against an opponent with 47 percent of the vote in Ward 5.

Attleboro High School graduate , who was under fire over whether or not he was a permanent resident of Attleboro, collected the highest number of votes in the at-large race.

  • Ward 2: William Larson, who beat James Stors, with 55% of the votes
  • Ward 3: Christopher O'Neill, who beat Robert Hill, with 59% of the votes
  • Ward 4: Brenda Furtado, who beat Helen Johsnon, with 56% of the votes
  • Ward 5: Frances Zito, who is leading Laura Dolan, with 53% of the votes
  • Ward 6: Kenneth Parent, who beat Michael Levinson, with 55% of the votes
