UPDATE: Medical Emergency Causes Lockdown at Attleboro Middle School

Students faced with medical lockdown in Attleboro.

The entire student body at Coelho Middle School in South Attleboro was held later than usually today due to a medical lockdown that lasted a few minutes, according to Marc Furtado, Attleboro's district administrator.

Furtado said the incident occurred just before the school’s regular dismissal time of 2:20 p.m. and students were held back a few minutes.

“It was not an injury, it was more of an emotional distress issue,” Furtado said. He also wanted to assure parents that there was no blood or bodily fluids involved with the lockdown.

"At 1:57 three officers, two South attleboro cruisers along with a juvenile officer responded to to assist with an out-of-control student and the fire department also responded and transported the child to for an evaluation," Attleboro Police Det. Sgt. Art Brillon said. "It came in through a 911 call. It was assit for an unruly student."

The child's name and age was not available, Brillon said. And no one was taken into police custody.

“It wasn’t a big incident,” Furtado said.

The school officials said they could not release further specifics due to medical privacy laws.
