Fourth-Graders Use Math to Feed Attleboro's Hungry

Fourth-grade students, with help from Willett Elementary teacher Kim Janssen, provide food to an Attleboro pantry.

After learning about nutrition and practicing their math skills, fourth-graders at in Attleboro delivered food to the city's food pantry Wednesday.  

Peapod, the online food delivery service affiliated with partnered with Willett to teach kids about nutrition and budgeting, while also providing food to the Self Help food bank at 95 Pine St. 

The three fourth-grade classes at Willett each received a $150 gift card from Peapod and shopped with their virtual shopping cart to find nutritious food on their $150 budget.

Once all the orders were complete, Peapod delivered the goods to the school and the students personally delivered the food to the Pine Street pantry. 

“We started the Kids Give Back Program to teach kids about nutrition, budgeting and also the value of giving back to the community," Peapod's Director of Marketing Peg Merzbacher said. "These students are at a perfect age to learn these values and good habits, and we've been delighted to see their enthusiastic support for the food pantry.”
