Coach Recognized for More Than his Moves on the Court

St. John the Evangelist Coach John Gautieri was recognized for his passion, time and talent in coaching basketball.

Volunteers and student-athletes at St. John the Evangelist School in Attleboro were recently recognized for their passion, talent and spirit in St. John sports.

Each year, the school recognizes some of its 180 student-athletes for their improvement and spirit in school sports and a volunteer who has given back to the school in special ways.

Volunteer basketball coach John Gautieri received the Bill Jost Award, an award presented to a volunteer who has given their time and demonstrated passion and talent in special ways while volunteering at the school.

The Jost Award is a special one. It is given in the memory of Bill Jost, a former St. John the Evanglist parishioner and volunteer at the church and school. Jost died more than nine years ago, but his name lives on each year during the presentation of the award.

He didn’t have children or grandchildren in the school or the religious education program, according to the school, but he demonstrated his
Catholic values through his volunteerism.
