Bishop Feehan Student Wins Congressional Art Competition

Meghan Murray has won the 2011 Congressional Art Competition.

Meghan Murray, a student at in Attleboro and resident of Mansfield, is the winner of the 2011 Congressional Art Competition for Massachusetts’ Third Congressional District, Cong. James McGovern announced Wednesday.

The competition, which was initiated by Congress in 1982, includes hundreds of thousands of high school students from across the nation. One piece from each congressional district will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, DC.

McGovern will host a reception for the winners Friday, June 1o at his Worcester office, featuring the winning pieces.

Murray’s artwork will adorn a wall in the United States Capitol for the next year. and she will attend an unveiling ceremony in the U.S. Captiol Building with McGovern later in the month.

 “I am consistently amazed by the artwork being produced by students throughout my district," McGovern said in a release. These talented young artists demonstrate once again why we need to support strong arts funding and programs in our schools.

“I especially want to congratulate Meghan, whose watercolor is both technically well-executed, and emotionally evocative," he added.
