Attleboro Whiz Kid: Bobby Martin

Young Attleboro Whiz Kid Bobby Martin is his dad's true hero.

Six years ago, Bobby Martin literally leaped onto his father’s Multiple Sclerosis stricken and paralyzed body. With that leap, Bobby initiated signs of movement in Bob Martin’s abdominal muscles. As a result, Bob's challenging, yet fruitful, process towards regaining the ability to walk began. As his dad’s true hero, the junior Martin helped, encouraged and inspired his dad to get back onto his feet.

Today, this remarkable father and son are studying tae kwon do alongside each other at Mu Han Martial Arts in Attleboro. “On a joyous October day last year, Bobby and his father earned their 1st degree black belts. What's more, Bobby has signed on to the instructor training program and has shown great enthusiasm and kindness in helping younger students not only learn the requirements, but understand the responsibility that comes with being a martial artist,” shared friend Paula McKeever. “Those responsibilities include respecting others, always striving to give 100 percent, and for the kids; doing one's best in school.”

Bobby particularly enjoys helping students in the Little Tigers and the Advanced Sparring classes. “I really like helping kids here," he said. "They enjoy seeing someone their own age.”

Getting up early and spending the day fishing and canoeing with his dad are sources of joy for Bobby. Together, the father and son take every chance they can to enjoy life together and build lasting memories.

Throughout the year, Bobby volunteers with St. Vincent de Paul filling grocery bags for home deliveries to those in need. On occasion, he is able to take part in the food deliveries with his grandmother and reap the benefits of giving and sharing one’s self with others.
