Attleboro Superintendent Apologizes to Parents

Superintendent Pia Durkin took time out of the school committee meeting to apologize to parents for the lack of communication.

Attleboro Schools Superintendent Pia Durkin used Wednesday night's School Committee meeting as an opportunity to address parents and apologize to them for her administration's lack of communication following allegations of rape at

“We probably should have sent some form of communication out before it reached the media,” Durkin said. “That was a mistake and I apologize.”

The response stemmed from Tuesday’s meeting at Coelho regarding the incident, where parents expressed their anger and disappointment over the school’s lack of communication.

Many parents were upset that they found out through various rather than the school.

Durkin acknowledged the series of events and said she knows now that parents would much prefer to hear news from someone they trust in the administration before the media.

“The small window where we could have made communication slipped by us,” Durkin said. 

“We are going to correct that,” Durkin said of any future incidents.
