Attleboro Students Honored at Spotlight on Education Breakfast

Four Attleboro students received scholarships at the annual United Regional Chamber of Commerce Spotlight on Education Breakfast.

Four Attleboro students were among the recipients of various scholarships awarded by the United Regional Chamber of Commerce at its annual Spotlight on Education Breakfast at Lake Pearl Luciano’s in Wrentham this morning.

Sarah Scales from was awarded one of the three $1000 Jacqueline C. Stack Scholarships. She will be attending Marist College in the fall.

Kaileen Hand of Attleboro High was awarded one of the two $500 Metalor Technologies Scholarships and will be attending St. Edward’s University in Texas in the fall.

Seanna McNary of Attleboro High and Stephen Patch of were awarded the $500 scholarships from the Attleboro Area Foremen’s Club. McNary will be attending Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire this fall and Patch will be attending Clemson University in South Carolina in the fall.

Stephen Patch was unable to attend the event as he had a final exam to take.

The scholarships were available to the son or daughter of a member of the Chamber Commerce, or a member’s employee, who had a minimum of a 3.0 GPA, had applied to a four year college and had performed uncompensated community service.

In addition to the scholarships, the top ten students from both Attleboro High School and Bishop Feehan High School were announced.

State Representative Betty Poirier was on hand to address the students and emphasized their importance to the future.

“We’re counting on all of you to be the leaders of tomorrow,” Poirier said.

The chamber also honored 2011 Teacher of the Year, Rayna Lee Freedman, at the breakfast.

Freedman is resident of Deedham and a third grade teacher at the Jordan/Jackson Elementary School in Mansfield.

Freedman was unable to attend the breakfast due to a prior family commitment, but will receive a plaque; a $1,000 check sponsored by Bristol County Savings Bank, and will be nominated for the Massachusetts Teacher of the Year.

Freedman has stated that she will use the $1000 to purchase additional technology supplies for her classroom.
