Attleboro Schools Hires Business Manager

Three school principals and one assistant principal are also appointed.

Thomas Rose was hired as the new business manager for Attleboro's school department on Monday. The School Committee vote 8-0 (Teri Enegren was absent) for a three-year contract that starts in July. He will make $98,000 in the first year of the contract.

Rose is the replacement for Marc Furtado, . David King has been serving in the role on an interim basis. Rose will begin work in July when the next fiscal year begins.

A search committee that included School Committee members Kenneth Parent and David Murphy made the selection of Rose. Rose is the business manager in the Dracut public school system. He had similar roles in Natick and Malden. In addition, Rose was the municipal finance director and controller for Cranston, R.I.

"I am thrilled to be here," said Rose after Superintendent Pia Durkin introduced him. "I don't come in with any blinders and I'm well aware of the position and I'm extremely excited to come to the Attleboro Public Schools and try to contribute in a very strong way."

Also at the meeting, Durkin announced the appointment of three principals and one vice principal. Two of the appointees—Susan Nascimento, principal at  and Ray Lamore, assistant principal at —are already serving in their roles as interims. The others will begin work in July.

Linda S. McSweeney was named  principal. She will replace Janella Porter, who is retiring. McSweeney has been a principal at Palmer River Elementary in Rehoboth since 2005.

Andrew Boles was named  principal. He will replace Reza Sarkarati, who is leaving at the end of the school year to return to his former job as an education consultant. Boles is the assistant principal at Pierce Middle in Milton. He has also worked as an assistant principal in Taunton and Dedham.

Nascimento and Lamore are veterans in the Attleboro school system. Durkin noted that Lamore has worked at all nine of the district's schools.
