School District Resignations Announced

Attleboro's special education director and an elementary school principal will not return next year.

The  will be losing two more administrators after the fiscal year concludes June 30. Superintendent Pia Durkin said at the School Committee meeting on Monday that district's Special Education Director Lisa Martesian and  principal Catherine White would not be returning next year.

Durkin said Martesian would "explore other opportunities" and White got a job in a different school district. She praised both employees.

Martesian had worked as Attleboro's head of special education for the past two years. White was hired in 2007 as a literacy coach and became Hyman Fine's principal two years later.

The superintendent said it was important to move fast on getting a new special education director. She suggested it was too late in the year to hire an official replacement, citing that 17 area districts were looking to hire somebody for this position. Durkin said she had issued an internal notice to find somebody qualified to serve in the role on an interim basis for a year.

A search committee for Martesian's replacement will include parents, staff and School Committee members.
