Attleboro High Students Vote for President

Attleboro High School's  library was transformed into a polling station Tuesday as students got the opportunity to vote for president of the United States and share their opinions on important issues. Attleboro High took part in a program called The My Voice National Student Mock Election.

The mock polling station had a realistic feel and included students campaigning for their candidates with signs.

"The importance of an individual's voice expressed through their vote is a very valuable experience to teach our young people," school principal Bill Runey said.

School librarian Lisa Ryder, who organized the event with social studies coordinator Tobey Reed, said, "We heard students discussing the election during the day so we were happy to hear them engaging in the material." 

The students voted on two ballots. One included the choice for president between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. The other included a series of questions on education, the economy, the environment and other issues. Go here to see the issues ballot.

The results will be released Monday, just in time to give older residents an opportunity to learn how they should vote.
