Attleboro High Students Awarded for Excellence

Morgan Martini and Jonathan Giara excel at academics and extracurricular activities.

Two of Attleboro High School's top students in the class of 2013 were recognized at the school committee meeting on Monday with the Excellence Award from the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents. Award recipients Morgan Martini and Jonathan Giara have had success in and out of the classroom during their careers at the school.

Giara has served on the student council for four years, plays on various sports teams and has a weighted GPA of 100.2. Martini plays volleyball, has been involved in the Special Olympics since her freshman year and has a weighted GPA of 98.13. Both students have won numerous awards during their four years and plan to be science majors in college.

"They truly are the hope of Attleboro High School and represent the best and the brightest," Superintendent Pia Durkin said.

Attleboro High principal Bill Runey said after the meeting, "In my short time at AHS, Morgan and Jon have exhibited the true sense of personal responsibility that Blue Pride represents."

After receiving their awards, Martini and Giara gave advice for their younger peers on what they should do in high school. Both said students should take AP classes to challenge themselves and prepare for college, and advised people to join clubs and sports teams.

"It is a really great way to make friends, and when you're walking through the halls and in class, it's nice to feel that friendly environment," Martini said.

She added, "And in the end, it's rewarding and makes for a better resume."
