Attleboro and North Attleboro battled for the first 24 minutes Friday in the latest edition of a long-contested rivalry, but the girls in blue could not hold on for the final eight-minute segment and lost a hard fought game 62-49.
The loss drops the Bombardiers to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in league play.
At the end of the first eight minutes of play, North Attleboro held a 12-9 lead, and at halftime the score was knotted 26-26. The finish of the third quarter found North Attleboro up by one, and it appeared to be anyone's game. However, the Rocketeers came out strong in the final eight minutes, beating Attleboro down court, and never relinquished the lead.
Attleboro received strong play down low from Bri LaPlume, who finished with her second double-double of the season (16 points and 10 rebounds). Freshman Emily Houle had her first double-double as a varsity player (11 points and 12 rebounds), with eight of her points coming in the third period.
North Attleboro's Meghan Ronaghan led all players with 20 points.
Once again, Attleboro played without senior captain Bri Hochwarter, who is nursing an injured knee.
Attleboro will entertain Dartmouth Thursday at 1 p.m.
