School Committee Okays Raise for Attleboro District Manager

The Attleboro School Committee voted for Marc Furtado's pay increase and extension.

Business Manager’s Contract Extended

The Attleboro School Committee voted 6-1 in favor of approving a contract extension for Attleboro School District Business Manager Marc Furtado. Committee Member voted no and Teri Enegren and were absent.

The new contract runs from 2011 to 2014 and includes a pay raise from $101,244 to $110,000 for this current year, a raise that would be pro-rated and result in a difference of $6,275 for the current fiscal year.

This raise was the cause of the lone vote of no from Brenda Furtado, as she cited the difficult economy, tight budget and the fact that the district had negotiated concessions from other district employees.

The new contract also includes another raise to $115,000 for the second year of the contract.

Durkin said the funds for the raise do not come from the instruction and education budget, but will come from three different budget lines, the Superintendent’s Reserve line, the Business Office-Other Expenses line and the Business Office dues line.

“He’s a great asset and it’d be a shame to lose him,” said Fran Zito, adding “You get what you pay for.”

“We are a team and you need good players to have a good team,” Chairman Ray DiCiaccio said.
