Attleboro School Committee agrees to meet once a month

ATTLEBORO - Once a month appears to be often enough for the Attleboro School Committee.

The committee formally approved a new policy Monday reducing the minimum number of meetings in a month from two to one. The committee could hold special meetings if additional business requires.

Kenneth Parent was the only member to oppose the new policy.

Committee member David Murphy, citing public comments about the school committee reducing its workload, suggested that the change be coupled with posting the attendance and voting records of members.

However, some members commented that the information is already contained in public meeting minutes and that committee members might be absent because of emergencies or other legitimate reasons.

Two-term member Teri Enegren, who is not seeking re-election, has attended only a handful of meetings in two years.

Murphy, citing an "attendance problem" on the committee, later agreed to withdraw his motion.

"But not my concern," he added.
