Ward 4 City Council Candidates Make Case to Voters

Challenger Kathleen Hohlfield is looking to knock off incumbent Jonathan Weydt.

Incumbent Jonathan Weydt and challenger Kathleen Hohlfield will be on the City Council ballot when Ward 4  voters head to the polls on Nov. 5.

The two candidates were each given four minutes to make their case at city hall Thursday night in a forum held by the United Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Attleboro Sun Chronicle.

Hohlfield's focus centered on the economy.

"I will work with likeminded councilors to enhance the business environment in Attleboro," she said.

The challenger also mentioned traffic as an issue and said she had met with Police Chief Kyle Heagney to discuss recent break-ins in Ward 4. The Police Dept., she said, needs more resources.

"They are stretched very thin and the city is growing faster and they need more infrastructure and personnel," she said.

Hohlfield said she has enjoyed her time campaigning.

"The more I’ve canvassed, many of you have been so kind and so wonderful," she said. "There are a lot of concerns that people have. I will keep them in my heart and my mind and try to do my best for Attleboro. I will give back to Attleboro as much as it gave back to me."

Weydt said he was a "very passionate advocate" of the Attleboro Farmer's Market, which he is proud to have moved to Ward 4 after a vote would have restricted rules related to the market.

"Had I not done this, the farmer’s market would have possibly had to relocate into a neighbroring community," he said.

Weydt also touted his work in improving National Grid response to the ward and in blocking a landfill on Peckham St.

"As your Ward 4 councilor, I will continue to do everything in my power to make sure nothing like this ever happens again," he said.

"We’ve come a long way with all these issues, but more work needs to be done," he added.
