Ward 1 School Committee Candidate No Longer Running Unopposed

Shawn Moran today pulled papers to run a sticker campaign.

Attleboro School Committee candidate Teri Enegren will no longer be running unopposed in Ward 1. Just days after candidates for Attleboro School Committee participated in a public debate, Shawn Moran went to the Attleboro Election Office to run a sticker campaign against Enegren for Ward 1 School Committee.

Moran told Attleboro's election manager Maryann Draine that there are some wards that don't get enough interest from people who want to run for the seat including Ward 1.
Running for school committee is nothing new for Moran who served as Ward 2 School Committee Member before being unseated by Jim Stors.

Moran's move is similar to what Attleboro City Council candidate Duff White did during the preliminary election for Ward 5.

Enegren was confused about Moran's ability to run a sticker campaign.

"It was my understanding that someone made an inquiry about a sticker campaign in a ward and were told it is too late you missed the deadline," she said.

Draine said no one had come to her to request to run a sticker campaign other than White and Moran.

Surprised by the move, however, she is not.

"Of course I'm not, I know how things work in Attleboro," Enegren said. "He's been all over the board and Helen Johnson is only pulling against Brenda Furtado because she was running un-oppposed and I believe he's doing that for the same reason."

Joseh Lazzerini, who had planned to run against Teri Enegren for School Committee Ward 1, changed his mind to run against Enegren months ago.

"While, I feel as to though I could be a strong voice for the students, parents and teachers of the City of Attleboro, I feel as though right now is not the right time for me," Lazzerini said at the time.

"I don't know what he expects to gain by this," she added of Moran's decision. "I'm not upset or concerned. He sat silent and didn't make any contributions. We have a large voting base and a lot of ward 1 constituents are very knowledegable people and I would put [the vote] in their hands and feel comfortable with that."
