2012 Presidential Candidate Makes a Stop in the 'Boro

Former Democrat and Louisiana governor, Buddy Roemer made a stop in Attleboro two days after announcing his candidacy for United States president.

Former Democrat and Louisiana Governor Buddy Roemer, who announced Friday that he has joined the race for Republican nomination in the 2012 United States presidential election, made a stop in Attleboro Sunday afternoon.

Roemer stopped by the home of Vice Chair of the Attleboro Republican City Committee, Susan Blais Sunday during the MASSGOP Summer Cookout Fundraiser, held by the Attleboro GOP Committee.

This year's collaborative effort was the results of joint planning and participation by the AttleboroGOP Board and the leadership of the MASS GOP, in an effort locally to support Massachusetts Republicans during the coming November election season.

AttleboroGOP Chairman Howard Bibeault and Vice Chair Susan Blais, welcomed the sold out cookout with more than 275 Republicans attending from across the Bay State.

“We were told that a special guest was going to try to stop by, but it was going to be a last minute chance, so everyone was excited as Presidential Candidate, Buddy Roemer arrived," Blais said. "I was happy he took the time to work the crowd as he met and shook hands with just about everyone.

"People seemed to really enjoyed his casual style and southern drawl,” she added.

The former United States Congressman from 1981 – 1988 and Louisiana Governor from 1988 – 1992 was elected to both positions as a Democrat, but made the decision to become a Republican during his gubernatorial term.

Addressing the crowd, Roemer was emphatic when he stated, “I will take no PAC money, I will take no special interest money and I will take no contribution over $100 so I can represent average Americans.”

No stranger to Massachusetts, Roemer has an MBA from Harvard Business School said he is in favor of controlling federal spending, a simplified tax code, energy independence and an end to corporate welfare.

Roemer wasn't the only GOP guest to be recognized.

"The Attleboro GOP Committee is proud to welcome MASS GOP chair, Jennifer Nassour, to our area and we are thrilled at the turnout today," said Attleboro’s Republican City Chairman Howard Bibeault.

Chairman, Jennifer Nassour and her staff along with many Republican elected officials spent the afternoon interacting with all those in attendance.

All MASS GOP candidates present were formally introduced during what was otherwise an informal at ease gathering with food, music, fun for the kids, blue skies and plenty of time for conversation.

Entertainment included live music from DJ Peter Hoogerzeil of Seekonk and a professional magic show with a patriotic pig, live dove and other small animals.

The extreme balloon animals was not to be missed with many of the attendees walking around with colorful red, white and blue balloon hats.
